1. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Can’t Hold Us (Major Lazer Remix)
How do you make the most uplifting track of 2013 even happier? Add some Major Lazer flavor… obviously.
2. Wale ft. Rihanna – Bad (Remix)
Made me fall in love with RiRi a little more. The fact she’s jumped on this remix shows exactly why she’s the most interesting female artist around.
3. Doe B ft. T.I. & Juicy J – Let Me Find Out (Remix)
All star remix of Doe B’s no nonsense dirty south banger.
T.I. is back!
4. Kid Ink – Time Of Your Life
“I said, you ain’t gotta, you ain’t gotta leave.
My bad, I know this ain’t usually your scene.
But don’t worry about it girl, just be yourself,
And I swear, I ain’t gonna, I ain’t gonna say a thing”
A rare bit of Hip Hop concern shown for women in this beautiful track from 2012.
With ‘Bossin Up’ and ‘Bad Ass’ blowing up in 2013, it’s only a matter of time before Kid Ink starts getting the shine he deserves.
5. Plies – F*cking or What
Take Kid Ink’s approach to women on the track above and imagine the opposite. Yes. It’s this song.
Plies used to be the ign’ant thug rapper that the ladies loved. The past few years have seen him somewhat fall out of fashion, but make no mistake; this track is a filthy, dirty, bassy club banger.
Need to hear this in Vegas pronto.
6. Future ft. Rocko – Chosen One
Sssssseriously…how does Future keep doing it? Another catchy track that is going to be everywhere this summer!
7. Camp Lo – Lucini
Camp Lo will forever be an enigma in Hip Hop. What the hell actually happened? Ahead of their time? Label politics? Not actually that good? Laziness? Too weird? I don’t know.
This 1997 smash shows why they’re still held in such high esteem. Mix Ghostface lingo with Outkast chemistry and add a dash of 70s blaxploitation style and you’re somewhere close to what they were all about.
8. Action Bronson – Strictly 4 My Jeeps
Action Bronson does not give a flying f*ck. Fat girls + Riff Raff + NYC. = winning.
Can’t wait to see where Kendrick and his recent signee take hip hop in the next few years.
9. Driicky Graham – Snap Backs & Tattoos
Some idiot told me this song is corny. Play this in your car on a sunny summer’s day and tell me you don’t feel like the sh*t.
It tore up summer 2012 and will do the same this year.
10. Twista – A.D.I.D.A.S
Been unashamedly banging on about this song for weeks. As someone with a seriously soft spot for adidas, this is ‘My adidas’ for a new generation.
Twista is waaaay more than a 1,000-word-a-minute 1 trick pony.
Chitown, stand up!
As always, feedback appreciated.
See you in July!
